Episode 7: Dr. Victoria Marron

Welcome Dr. Victoria Marron! Dr. Marron is the Executive Director of Retention Transition Services at Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Dr. Marron discussed her journey from troubled youth to advocating for minorities and youth in Baytown and surrounding areas. We discussed the current racial unrest and the steps we must take to reshape and heal our society through understanding and unity. Please enjoy!

During this episode, we welcomed deeply rooted, and engaged, McNair/Baytown resident, Mrs. Helen Berrott Tims. Mrs. Tims is the Community Liaison for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Joe Steven's. Her over 25 years of community and civic engagement, made for one great conversation about community needs, current unrest, and ways we can guide our youth. Your Baytown Engage team, Erline & Samuel, sat down for a short discussion about the first five episodes focused on COVID-19s impact on the community and the direction of the podcast moving forward. Episode 5: Shae Cottar

Today, we welcome Mr. Shae Cottar. He is a husband, father, real estate broker, HAR Board member, and GCISD Board Trustee. Shae and I sat down to discuss how COVID has hit the real estate market and the schools. We also discussed the recent issues we are all facing concerning inequality and unrest across the nation. We discussed what this is looking like for Baytown, as well as our own underlining issues coming to the surface and how we can invoke change for the future. Episode 4: Lori Rumfield

Lori Rumfield is the Director of Community Impact at United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County. She has been one of the many people helping get much needed resources to those in need during this COVID crisis. We sat down to discuss how close to home COVID came to her and her family. Lori also gave much needed insight into the continued hard work that United Way, and their partner agencies, have been doing for Baytown and Chambers County.

Episode 3: Angela Valencia

Angela Valencia is a first year kindergarten teacher, mother of three, wife, and COVID-19 survivor. We discuss the struggles to keep her young children, and students, encouraged and engaged. Angela discussed her recovery from COVID-19 and the worries behind that. We also look at what schools might look like come summer and fall.

Episode 2: Kirven Tillis

Kirven Tillis is a Ross S. Sterling graduate, former Goose Creek ISD educator, and now has over 10 years with Barbers Hill ISD. We discussed how COVID has impacted the teacher, students, and parents. Mr. Tillis highlighted the resilience of our teachers and the real fear that looms if we experience a second wave of this pandemic.

Danielle Paul is the founder, and Center Director, of Let’s Learn: An Innovative Learning Center in Baytown, Texas. We sat down and discussed how COVID-19 has changed her life, her family's life, the lives of her students, and staff.
